Makeup for the Non-makeup Gal!
Before you read any further, let me just start by saying that makeup and other beauty products are not my strongest suit. Yes, I do use them, but... my "thing" has and always will be clothes and shoes. I have settled for years for mostly drugstore makeup (and also whatever my makeup loving mama gives me) so that I can feed my clothes obession. Don't get me wrong, I have namebrand bronzers, mascaras etc, but those to me aren't that much of a financial commitment and almost always do the job.
However, the key thing to note here is that I have been very fortunate with my skin type. I have a good balance of oily and dry skin. I break out here and there, and sometimes worse than before, but I've never truly needed serious makeup coverage. I am not saying that to brag, but to let you all know that it contributes to my lack of desire to spend on this stuff! Well, you all may be glad to know (or not) that my 25 year old adult self is stepping her game up a little. I do work in a very professional environment and prefer NOT to look like I came to work in last night's makeup. Also, this past year, my skin has decided to rock the boat a little. Maybe its hormones? I still don't need the heavy coverage, but need something a little more and something that lasts. So, let me tell you what I have discovered.
The NARS luminous foundation was recommended to me, but before committing to it, I decided to try the NARS tinted moisturizer and concealer first. I have obviously never tried their products before, so I wanted to test them out. Let me say, I am VERY pleased. The coverage of the tinted moisturizer is moderate, which is perfect for me. You don't need to apply a lot, and it feels so good on your skin. Because it is a moisturizer, it does have a very dewy finish (which I like) but some people do not. Again, I have an oily/dry skin type so I do need a little bit of powder to balance it without taking the "dew" away. I will get to that in a minute. The NARS concealer is amazing. I do need a bit more coverage for those pesky bumps and under my eyes, and it does the trick! Again, you don't have to apply a lot and it LASTS. I am in love with it! It blends so well with the tinted moisturizer.
So, after I apply both of those, I put a little powder over it to blend it. I invested in the bareMinerals BarePro powder foundation. I don't use much, just a little in my t-zone (my most oil-prone area) and to blend everything on my neck. It smells amazing, feels light, and doesn't take away from that dewy look.
I am no expert, believe me, but I also feel like what you use to apply your makeup makes a huge difference. I was using a beauty blender before, but I felt like it soaked up all of my makeup and that the actual blender didn't last long before needing to be replaced... maybe I was buying the wrong brand. I dont know. But, I decided to try some foundation and concealer brushes when I bought my new makeup. You all know that I love Target, and they have seriously stepped their beauty/makeup products up. I found some brushes that I absolutely LOVE. They are unbelievably soft and provide such an even application.
All in all, VERY pleased with my new products. If you are looking for moderate coverage with a dewy look, I highly recommend all of these. Also, side note, I WILL be trying the NARS luminous foundation after I finish what I have. I am very pleased with their products and want to try more.
I have linked everything below, in addition to the other makeup products I use.
So, aside from makeup, I have have also linked a few of my favorite beauty products. I SWEAR by all of these. If you have any questions on these items, please leave me a comment or message me on Instagram! I am happy to share details.
Another side note- for those on my Instagram stories, you asked for a review of the Kristen Ess dry shampoo. I am so pleased. The smell is uncomprable. I feel like all dry shampoo has a weird scent, but this is heavenly. People have actually come into my office and immediately ask what I am wearing, because of this dry shampoo! It soaks in well and doesn't feel like you've just sprayed a thick layer of powder on your head. It also has zip-up technology which helps seal your split ends, and really makes your hair feel SO soft. I actually spray just a little on my first day hair. It helps set your style and again, makes it so soft!
What a lengthy post- hope you all enjoyed it!
